I'm a management graduate with 9 years of experience working in the corporate setting. My background is mainly in marketing, but I'm also keen on operations and working with startups. I'm looking to take my expertise a step further by embracing the challenge of finding success in a foreign setting, particularly in a cosmopolitan city like Melbourne. I see job postings online but don't want to waste my time if employers are only accommodating locals. What's the most logical advice to take?

Hi A,

What nationality are you? Some passports have more power than others, and it'll influence how easily you might be able to get a work visa.

This Expat Arrivals page on working in Australia, and this page on working in Melbourne might provide some insights.

Otherwise, the job market in Melbourne doesn't seem to be too focused on only hiring locals. You also seem quite experienced, which helps. It might be best to contact recruitment agencies directly, as well as to look at online job postings.

Hi Kyle,

Thanks for the quick revert. I'm from the Philippines, a degree holder and still gainfully employed. Follow up question: do schools have bearing in the application?
