What the school says

"Britannica International School, Shanghai is the only school in the city to be British-owned, with fully trained teachers from the British Isles, delivering the English National Curriculum to children from age 2 to 18 years, starting at the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) all the way through to IGCSE and A-level qualifications. Our British heritage means that children leave us with the highest level of achievement.

Britannica International School, Shanghai is located in Gubei, close to the downtown area, with nearby open spaces, and which is easily accessible with short journey times and bus routes for students. Our purpose-built campus features a wide range of facilities, including specialist science and art facilities with both primary and secondary library learning centres and a fully-equipped ICT suite.

As a truly international school, we also support the breadth of student languages; offering a World Languages Programme to provide native language lessons throughout the school for Mandarin, Korean, French, Italian, Japanese and Hebrew. We also provide the highest quality English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme."

From the principal

"Britannica offers one of the most individualised educational programmes for the expat community of Shanghai. We take our responsibility to educate and care for each individual child very seriously.  We recognise that no two children are alike, that each child has different skills and talents and that each child has areas where they will require more support. We are creative and adaptive in our curriculum delivery to ensure that we accommodate these individual needs. We offer the very best of a British international independent education.

The safety and happiness of our children are central to all that we do. Enthusiastic and happy students will excel in their studies. Britannica students lead by example, demonstrate courtesy and respect for each other, are team players, yet can work and think independently. Britannica students are creative and resolute and are encouraged to meet challenges with a determination knowing that they will be supported and encouraged by their peers and teachers along the way. They develop the skills and attributes to become the effective global citizens and leaders of tomorrow that we all desire our children to be.

As partners with parents in the education of each child, teachers work closely with parents, ensuring daily communication between home and school is effective and informative. Parents are always welcome to meet with individual teachers, curriculum leaders or the school Principal to discuss the progress of their child.

We are proud of our school, our teachers and most importantly our pupils who all reflect the best that British education brings to Shanghai."
